Continental’s summer SUV tyre, the Continental Conti Sport Contact 5 FR SUV, is designed to excel with the specific braking and directional needs of heavier vehicles with its SUV-specific casing. It is also designed to accommodate rapid directional changes. It is built with an asymmetric tread featuring large outer cornering blocks and an inner edge with water dispersion grooves. The outer edge of the tread is channelised water dispersion in the inner tread section of the tyre.

The Conti Sport Contact 5’s FR marking indicates a Rim Protection feature. This feature includes a small, protective, raised rubber impingement on the tyre’s outer edge that shields the rim from damage due to light contact with kerbs. The Conti Sport Contact 5 FR SUV is a summer road use tyre. Its summer casing is built to accommodate the heavier loads of an SUV, particularly when braking. Since I fitted these Continental tyres to my SUV, the improvement in handling has been immense. I find these tyres grip the dry asphalt really well and the wet weather traction is also an additional bonus. Continental have also done a good job with respect to road noise as these tyres are quieter than others I have tried, overall a decent ride.
