275/40 R23 is a size for large SUVs with very large wheels. 275 is the width in millimetres. 40 is the sidewall height as a percentage of 275mm, so the sidewall height is 110mm. R23 means a radial tyre that fits a 23-inch rim. The overall diameter is 804mm, with a sidewall of 110mm. The 110mm height is inconsequential to the large SUVs.
