The Continental SportContact 7 is a summer performance tyre. Having developed these characteristics into a different tyre for vehicles of varying weights and power levels, Continental are adept at responding to market needs. The tread pattern is designed for summer conditions, but with rain and wet roads in mind and coupled with an asymmetric Adaptive Pattern, the outer tread blocks link for cornering, the inner section employs a more open design to deal with water.

Constantly Flexible is a rubber compound designed by Continental, with lateral and vertical grooves, which helps the rubber to conform to road surfaces.

The SportContact 7 is the 7th iteration to replace the SportContact 6. Compared to the SportContact 6, Continental says that the SportContact 7 has less braking distance, a maximum improvement of 8% in the wet and 6% in the dry and an impressive increase of 17% in the tyre lifespan.

I understand these tyres are not designed for track use, but I tested them on my Corsa VXR at a track day and thought they were far too soft. Personally, I think Michelin Pilot Sport 5s are far superior. After a single lap at Bedford, these tyres felt like they were turning to chewing gum. The Pilot Sport 5s handle the track far better. On the other hand, they are reasonable on the road. Compared to the Michelins, they provide a more comfortable ride and smoother overall experience. I guess it comes down to what you want from a tyre.

The new tyres are terrific and noise levels are much lower than my old Bridgestone tyres. They grip well both when the road is wet and dry. I would highly recommend them for a 2019 Golf GTi.

I changed from SportContact6 tyres to these and I'm still impressed. I also have PremiumContact7s on my other car and they're spot on too. Amazing tyres overall.
