The Continental Sport Contact 5 is a premium summer tyre. The BlackChili compound used provides impressive braking and cornering control. The Sport Contact 5 uses an asymmetric tread design. Larger tread blocks are placed on the outer edge for cornering and braking support. Centre tread blocks stiffen at high speeds and a steady line is maintained by the centre ribs. The 3D grooves remove water from the contact patch.

The Sport Contact 5’s successor is the SportContact 6. The SportContact 6 also comes in ContiSeal and SSR constructions. ContiSeal tyres have a sealing layer beneath the tread which seals punctures up to 5mm. SSR (Self Supporting Runflat) tyres are constructed with reinforced sidewalls that support the vehicle after a loss of air pressure. Had these done a couple of weeks ago. Took them on a long drive and I'm pretty impressed by how they performed. They are an upgrade on my old tyres, going from Conti Sport Contact 3 to the 5s.

While it is very early days, I feel like the Continental Sport Contact 5s do not provide the same level of instantaneous feedback and clarity of steering as the Bridgestone Potenza S001s that were replaced. On the other hand, the ride is a little bit more comfortable. This could be down to the tread depth of the new tyres and the worn Bridgestones, or maybe it's due to the rubber compound or sidewall stiffness of the new tyres. For now, I will reserve judgement on the Continentals until I have covered a few thousand more miles in a variety of conditions. Always really happy with the service from Tyres.co.uk.

The standard fit comes with Bridgestone Potenzas, but these Continentals are better. They provide better grip and also handle breakaways better.
