The Bridgestone Potenza S005 is a summer tyre designed to accommodate the exacting high-speed steering and braking requirements of the BMW 8 Series. As such, it is an ultra-high-performance summer tyre developed as original equipment for BMW. Its asymmetric tread design helps deal with dry cornering and wet-road drainage. It features large linked blocks forming a firm shoulder for cornering. The inner side has four longitudinal grooves with water-shedding angled channels.

Any BMW 8 Series tyre with a BMW star marking on the sidewall was built to BMW’s specifications. If the delivered tyre has the star marking, then the purchaser is getting the specified version of the tyre. Other options in the range also include Reinforced XL construction. The tyres give a smooth ride and good grip which means they will probably last longer. The tyres weren't a lot more expensive than mid range options but are top quality.

The default tyres fitted to BMWs are absolute rubbish. I get a new BMW every six months due to my job, and I absolutely hate when I get these tyres. My co-workers have a regular BMW and theirs wear down to 3mm at 8,000 miles. Mine is a performance BMW and I went through them in just 5,000 miles. The grip is similar to Pirelli or Goodyear in both wet and dry, but it is decent, and nothing outstanding. The braking, handling and grip are all fine, but for how quick they wear out, they are terrible. We actually look forward to our new cars arriving so we can joke on whoever gets these. Don't buy these tyres. I'm super glad I don't have that car anymore and I definitely do not want to drive with these tyres ever again. P.S. I personally never had a blowout, but a number of my colleagues have had Bridgestones burst unexpectedly, which is odd.
