Tyre review for Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 235/55R18 104H XL
I needed an all-terrain tyre for my small truck that I use mainly on the road, but I use it on some dirt tracks, field verges, and for some light off-road deer hunting and retrieval work as well. I had Toyo AT+, Falken Wildpeak, and Geolandars as options. A friend swears by the Toyo, but I live in a hilly area, and only the Falken and Yokohama have the snow peak rating, so I had to go with one of those. I ended up choosing the Yokohama because it came in the exact size I wanted, though I might have picked Falken had they had my size. The Geolandar does really well off-road and is especially good on wet grass, and damp verge and field situations. I have never even needed to put it in 4WD or low range because they grip so well in 2WD. I do not recommend them for very deep mud, but for everything that isn't serious off-roading they are good. They are quiet, and fuel savings have not changed, and I also find them softer than the Bridgestones they replaced which does make the ride a lot nicer. The only problem is that the sidewalls are really soft. You will have a tendency to oversteer as the car will give way under lateral pressure and that is part of the sidewall problem. This is not great but you do not want to push these things too much on an old Suzuki Grand Vitara. Overall you are expecting them to do what they do. I think most people are going to like these tyres. I have driven around 2000 miles on these tyres, and have seen no visible wear on them. I will replace these tyres based on age not wear, and since I get an average of 6000 miles a year, I would replace these tyres about every three years. However, these tyres seem durable enough to last me that long.
