Product description & features

The Yokohama BluEarth-A AE50 tyre uses Yokohama’s Nano Blend Compound and design ideas from the AE40 and AE51 tyres as well as from the BluEarth GP family to create a summer touring tyre with low rolling resistance and improved wet performance. While Yokohama’s nano blend compound uses a blend of silica and orange oil to reduce rolling resistance, the asymmetrical design of the AE50 separates the inner and outer sides of the tread. From inner to outer, the design features: a water evacuation system, cornering support tread blocks, and a f irm tread band designed to give consistent steering performance on dry surfaces.

As part of Yokohama's BluEarth line, the AE50 replaced the C.drive2 and the now discontinued touring tyre section of the C.drive line. Yokohama's AE51 now takes the place of the AE50. Tyres.co.uk sells Yokohama's BluEarth-A AE50.

I would say the tyre has good grip, however when driving over 60 it is much more noisier than the last one.

Great tyres. I drive mainly on motorways, and they hold the road really well, even when it is wet. I believe they are actually better than the Continentals I had previously.

The tyres meet my expectations. This is my second car and I don't do many miles in it. I drive carefully and don't push it to hard on the public roads, so I can't comment on how these tyres affect drifting round roundabouts like some reviewers. Overall, I would buy them again.

These tyres are great for road use, with dependable grip regardless of the weather, and they are quieter than the usual multi-purpose tyres that come with the Outback. They do, however, need higher than normal air pressures, as they can look a bit deflated.

Tyre review for Yokohama BluEarth-A AE50 185/45R17 78H
Due to the recent covid lockdown, I have not been able to drive much so it is a bit too early to provide a proper assessment. There have been no problems so far. The road noise is a bit louder than I was expecting but then again I am only comparing them to my last set of tyres. Those were Yokohama Geolandars that I replaced after 66,000 miles and eight years because they started to perish, even though they were still road legal. I hope the BluEarth range performs as well as the Geolandars.

Great gripping ability in wet conditions. Although I would say they are a bit firmer than the Goodyears they replaced, I'd still recommend them.

Great tyres! Now I am able to take corners with confidence. They feel safe and even in wet conditions they have great grip. These tyres most certainly can compete with top premium brands in performance.

Tyre review for Yokohama BluEarth-A AE50 185/45R17 78H
I drive every day and nearly all of my driving is done on country roads. I was very pleased with how these tyres performed even with the snow. I do tend to put my foot down a little heavier then I should, but with my old tyres I used to have a lot of wheel spin, whereas now that has basically gone. For the last ten years I've had Yokohama tyres on my last six cars, and would always be left impressed.

Tyre review for Yokohama BluEarth-A AE50 185/45R17 78H
The tyres perform extremely well, but there is a design flaw: there are no rim protectors on the inner and outer sidewalls. I have never scraped rims in my four decades of driving, but now I have. Even when you remove a wheel and set it down, the rim goes down first. And these tyres are without a doubt the correct profile for the wheels. It's ridiculous!
