How much fuel the tyre uses as it rolls. Graded A to E, where A is the most efficient and E the least.
How well the tyre stops in the wet. Graded A to E, where A is the shortest stopping distance. Each grade is worth roughly 3 metres, about a car length.
How loud the tyre is from outside the car, measured in decibels. Graded A to C, where A is the quietest.
Designed for cars, rather than vans, 4x4s or commercial vehicles.
A stronger sidewall lets this tyre carry more weight than a standard tyre of the same size. Marked XL on the sidewall.
Designed for temperatures below 7°C. Summer tyre rubber hardens in the cold and loses grip, while a winter compound stays soft and holds the road in cold, wet and snowy conditions.
The Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 is designed for ultra-high performance in the winter months. The asymmetric tread pattern aids braking and steering on cold, wet roads. A silica-rich compound keeps the tyre flexible at low temperatures. Water is channeled away by the grooves running the circumference of the tyre. The outer edge blocks support the tyre during cornering on cold, dry and wet roads. Minor slits in the tread provide braking bite and create traction for snow and slush.
The Winter Sottozero 3 has performance winter tyres and replaces the Winter Sottozero Serie II. Some of the iterations have the MO sidewall mark, which is the approval from Mercedes-Benz, or the BMW star mark, indicating that these tyres were made for each of their specifications compared to the others, and were not just made to fit the vehicles. At Tyres.co.uk, we offer the Sottozero 3 in different variations of Run Flat, Seal Inside and PNCS.
