Product description & features

The Primacy 5 is a summer tyre from Michelin that uses EverGrip Technologies to maintain performance for short stopping distances in the rain, even as the tyre wears. The Primacy 5 also uses an improved design for its grooves that are parallel to the direction of travel. They are 2.4mm wider than the grooves on the Primacy 4+, allowing even more space to redirect water. Michelin even designed a new rubber compound to maintain performance in the rain throughout the life of the tyre. The design of the tread helps the tyre wear evenly.

With the introduction of the Primacy 5, Michelin retires the Primacy 4+. The Primacy 5 will give drivers even more distance, up to 18% more, on the same set of tyres. The Primacy 5 will also perform even better in the rain with stopping distances up to 4% shorter when new, and 6% when worn. The Primacy 5 is available with XL construction that Michelin reinforces to help it carry heavier loads. All of the variants, including the reinforced XL, of the Michelin Primacy 5, are for sale at Tyres.co.uk.

Highlights

  • Wider water-clearing grooves
  • Even tread wear design
  • New rain-performance rubber compound

Tyre review for Michelin Primacy 5 225/45R17 91W
These tyres have been nothing short of great. I had the Primacy 4+ before and assumed upgrading to these was the clear choice, but I still made sure to do my research first. Each year, improvements have been made. They're better in grip, and also better in handling in the wet, and are a little quieter than the 4+. Overall, I'm quite satisfied.

There have been great improvements with how the road is being handled, along with a noticeable decrease with how far it takes to come to a complete stop.

Tyre review for Michelin Primacy 5 225/45R17 91W
These tyres were chosen based on a prior experience with Michelins, which were great. These do not disappoint and are just as good! They are very comfortable and seem to roll more efficiently than the last set, so I assume I am getting better fuel consumption. Every type of weather braking feels great because that's what you want from new tyres. I wonder how it will be as the tyres wear down. For handling, steering and noise, they are pretty awesome. I am really happy with them, probably one of the best sets I've owned. I think my only concern is that they feel a little bit bouncier than my last set of tyres. I selected the extra load option and so the sidewalls are thicker which is a nice choice because I think the standard ones would be bouncier. I expected that to be a problem with cornering but they still corner really well with good grip. I would buy these tyres again in a heartbeat. Next time I might go for two Bridgestones just to compare, as I've rated them highly in the past, and I think with the new car and lower profile tyres I'm eager to see how they perform. Bridgestones are cheaper than Michelins so I can see that being a factor as well, but I guess if the Michelins last longer then they would likely be more cost-effective in the long run. I've also really liked the Continental Premium Contact 5 tyres in the past. They had the best braking but unfortunately they wore out quicker than I wanted them to. They would have been my first choice in other circumstances. I've also run the Dunlop Blue Response, which provides decent all round performance and is great value. There is nothing amazing about them, but they do the job adequately.

They seem to last a long time and do a good job holding the road. I've retired so they will last even longer.
