Tyre review for Michelin Pilot Sport 5 205/45R16 87W XL
Having fitted Michelin PS5 tyres to my lightweight sporty hatchback, I can say they have been nothing short of impressive. When it comes to grippy, comfortable performance tyres, these are the best. They also easily manage wet and poor quality B roads. Steering feedback is excellent, and you can feel the road well through the wheel. The only issue is that steering accuracy, and good initial turn-in isn't top tier. However, the big positive is that during the middle of the corner they can handle the load being put on them. Speaking of grip, they are also great when it comes to smoothing out nasty bumps in the road. They will also perform best after an initial break-in period of around 400-500 miles. I say this because at first it felt like I was driving on jelly. Tyre pressures will affect the ride quality a lot, so this is definitely something you will want to play around with. In my opinion, it is also worth getting the XL version, even for lighter cars, as the stiffer sidewalls help with steering a lot.
