The Dunlop SP SportMaxx GT is a summer tyre designed for high speed stability with a tread optimised for fast cornering and Kevlar sidewall reinforcement. The tread features a blocky outer edge for cornering with a more open inner edge for water clearance. The steering is aided with sidewall reinforcement as cornering forces resist flex.

Extensive use of Multi Radius Tread means the curvature of the tread is optimised throughout the width of the tyre. Dunlop Self Supporting Technology is featured on some sizes; it is a construction technique that allows the sidewall to support the vehicle during a loss of pressure to assist runflat capability. Not much appears to have changed, unfortunately. The XJ is the last Jaguar model that does not switch to all-wheel drive when necessary. The rear-wheel drive and wide, low-profile tyres make the car great for comfort and for being quiet most of the time, but for icy and snowy roads, it is useless. I do everything possible to avoid driving it in such conditions. I know I should put winter tyres on it as they do in other countries, but it seems an expensive answer for how little of such conditions we get.

Overall, I'm pleased with the performance of these tyres. I've driven them mostly in summer, but, a heavy rain situation arose, and they drove very well even then. As for driving in cold or icy weather, I really haven't had the opportunity, so I can't really say much on that.
