Rolling resistance has a direct impact on fuel consumption. A tyre's rolling resistance score ranges from A to E.
A tyre's wet grip capacity is expressed in Grades from A to E. The difference in braking distances between each grade is roughly 3m - an average car length.
The exterior noise grade of a tyre is expressed in decibels and accompanied by an external rolling noise rating - ranging from A (least exterior noise) to C (highest level of noise).
These tyres have been specifically designed for fitment and use on cars.
These tyres are designed with a stronger sidewall, making them capable of handling more weight than your average tyre. Typically, they are classified by the letters 'XL' on the sidewall.
These are designed for improved performance at temperatures below 7°C. At this temperature the rubber in summer tyres hardens and loses performance whilst the compound of winter tyres remains supple, maintaining grip.
The Continental WinterContact TS 860 S is a performance winter tyre that prioritises barefoot steering response on chilly dry roads while accommodating water and slushy conditions. Cool Chili is a Continental winter tyre compound that, while remaining flexible in the cold in order to grip, can also offer rubber able to grip on wet roads and snow. The TS 860 S's asymmetric tread design contains a stiffer outer block for better steering response and a biting inner edge for snow traction. Finally, the Liquid Layer Drainage technology uses tiny channels in the tread to remove the film of water from the blocks during wet braking.
Some of the TS 860 S's sidewalls contain the letters AO or N0, indicating that an Audi or Porsche approved this design; thus, it was built according to the specifications of each of these manufacturers, and not just according to the generalised dimensions to make the tyre fit. If a tyre already has this mark, then it is in the specifications for that particular vehicle. Continental subsequently replaced the TS 860 S with the WinterContact TS 870 P in their line of performance winter tyres. You can buy WinterContact TS 860 S tyres at Tyres.co.uk.
