225/40 R19 is used on BMW 3 Series and 4 Series. 225 is the width in mm. 40 is the aspect ratio. In this case 40% of 225mm means there is a 90mm sidewall. R19 means the tyre is of radial construction and sits on a 19-inch rim. This gives an overall diameter of 663mm. In BMW models, the short sidewall flex is contained during cornering.
