Product description & features

Wet braking and resistance to aquaplaning are the main concerns with the Uniroyal RainSport 5. Uniroyal has built this tyre with a directional tread featuring a V shape. Water is channeled by this design from the centre to the outer edge of the tyre. Inside the grooves of the tread, the stall of flow of water and turbulence is handled by the finish of Shark Skin Technology. Edge sipes are integrated in the tread and aid in water removal and provide grip while braking and turning.

The RainSport 5 has replaced the 3 and has an anticipated 15% increase in lifespan. There are also versions which can carry a heavier load; these are the RainSport 5 XL, which have reinforced sidewalls. These tyres should only be used when the temperature is higher than approximately 7 degrees Celsius. Tyres.co.uk also has XL versions.

Highlights

  • V-shaped directional tread
  • Edge sipes for water removal
  • Reinforced sidewalls on XL versions

Tyre review for Uniroyal RainSport 5 225/50R17 98V XL
These tyres are worth the money in my opinion. My last tyres had terrible grip in the wet and ice, but these are much better.

I am very happy with the tyres! I remember having these on my last car years ago, and they were good then. Great grip in the wet and they are quiet on the road.

Tyre review for Uniroyal RainSport 5 225/50R17 98V XL
The excellent dry grip provides good cornering confidence and there are no aquaplaning issues in heavy rain. Wet braking is noticeably improved and road noise is low. Although rough roads may give a bit more bump, the huge improvement in handling more than compensates.

I love these tyres as I feel comfortable using them whatever the weather conditions are, especially given the range of weather we get here in the UK.

Tyre review for Uniroyal RainSport 5 225/50R17 98V XL
The Uniroyals's grip has vastly improved with the replacement of the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Unlike the Michelins, the Uniroyals hold the road sensation and traction-wise. A chap in the motor trade with a Maserati said he recommended Uniroyals to me. My primary motivation for choosing them was the Michelins that costed a fortune. I am so happy with the decision that I would choose Uniroyals over Michelin at the same price.
