Product description & features

Wet braking and resistance to aquaplaning are the main concerns with the Uniroyal RainSport 5. Uniroyal has built this tyre with a directional tread featuring a V shape. Water is channeled by this design from the centre to the outer edge of the tyre. Inside the grooves of the tread, the stall of flow of water and turbulence is handled by the finish of Shark Skin Technology. Edge sipes are integrated in the tread and aid in water removal and provide grip while braking and turning.

The RainSport 5 has replaced the 3 and has an anticipated 15% increase in lifespan. There are also versions which can carry a heavier load; these are the RainSport 5 XL, which have reinforced sidewalls. These tyres should only be used when the temperature is higher than approximately 7 degrees Celsius. Tyres.co.uk also has XL versions.

Highlights

  • V-shaped directional tread
  • Edge sipes for water removal
  • Reinforced sidewalls on XL versions

Tyre review for Uniroyal RainSport 5 225/45R17 94Y XL
I have no complaints about the brilliant tyres. They grip better on wet surfaces, and the noise from the road is padded down due to the low profile and wide tread.

Tyre review for Uniroyal RainSport 5 225/45R17 94Y XL
These are excellent. I didn't record the mileage when I put them on, but for the MOT this summer, I had to replace the front tyres as they'd worn down to 2mm, which I thought was about 18 months. I've been racking up the mileage commuting for uni and work, and I estimate they've done about 30,000. Given the terrible roads in the eastern counties, I think that's pretty good.

These are the best tyres I've had. I've got them on my three cars and I wouldn't pick anything else. Have recommended them to friends too.

Tyre review for Uniroyal RainSport 5 225/45R17 94Y XL
Once I found out that some people use these tyres for wet track events, I assumed they would be good for driving on wet roads. They do excel in wet conditions and do perform amazingly on dry summer days as well. My go to choices tend to be Uniroyal RS5s or Michelin PS4s.
