Product description & features

Wet braking and resistance to aquaplaning are the main concerns with the Uniroyal RainSport 5. Uniroyal has built this tyre with a directional tread featuring a V shape. Water is channeled by this design from the centre to the outer edge of the tyre. Inside the grooves of the tread, the stall of flow of water and turbulence is handled by the finish of Shark Skin Technology. Edge sipes are integrated in the tread and aid in water removal and provide grip while braking and turning.

The RainSport 5 has replaced the 3 and has an anticipated 15% increase in lifespan. There are also versions which can carry a heavier load; these are the RainSport 5 XL, which have reinforced sidewalls. These tyres should only be used when the temperature is higher than approximately 7 degrees Celsius. Tyres.co.uk also has XL versions.

Highlights

  • V-shaped directional tread
  • Edge sipes for water removal
  • Reinforced sidewalls on XL versions

Tyre review for Uniroyal RainSport 5 195/45R16 84V XL
I have tested many different tyres, such as the Michelin PS4 S, PS4 and PS5, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5's and 6's, Continentals, Yokohamas, and Toyo Proxes TR1s. Out of all of these brands, Uniroyal tyres provide the best all-round grip, as in summer they outperform the competition, they also are great in the heat, provide great grip when it is raining, and even get through the winter without any issues. While this is also a trait of some other brands, it is not common for other tyre brands do to provide confidence when the road is cold - Even less so when it is warm. I run 360bhp in a Fiesta with Uniroyals and have tested other brands on my Fiesta, M2, and an old MK8 Fiesta. I have nothing negative to say about Uniroyal RS5 tyres.
