The General Tyres story starts back in 1915 in Ohio, when the brand was first founded by William O’Neil and Winfred Fouse. They wanted to take on the big names in the tyre manufacturing market and set about developing a range of high quality tyres specifically for the replacement tyre market.
Over the years, while General Tyres was selected as original equipment by specific vehicle manufacturers in the industry, it’s interesting to note that this brand started life as a replacement tyre company.
Various inventions underpin the quality and innovation that General Tyres remains known for today. Low-pressure balloon tyres and blowout-proof dual tyres were both early inventions that met the needs of off-road drivers, while the expansion into the truck tyre market made General Tyres a go-to for a wide range of vehicles.
Today, General Tyres is known for its efficiency and reliability. It developed the world’s largest test track in the 1960s to test its tyres and was acquired by Continental AG in 1987 as part of its continued growth and expansion. Its collection includes quality SUV and van tyres, 4x4 tyres, tyres for trucks and passenger cars – with durability, comfort, and value all prioritised across each model.
