History

Cooper Tyres has a unique history, starting life as a local Ohio-based company that specialised in tyre repair and maintenance. When the company acquired The Giant Tire & Rubber Company of Akron, an organisation that rebuilt tyres, it relocated to a new part of Ohio and founded the Cooper Tyre manufacturing company.

Since 1914, the company has continued to expand and develop – investing in tyre technology and innovation, through its own Cooper Global Technical Centre and a rigorous testing facility in Ohio.

It is now ranked among the top 10 tyre manufacturers in the world, owned by Goodyear, and with a selection of connected brands including Avon Tyres.

Cooper’s Position on the Tyre Market

Cooper Tyres is a mid-range brand that’s known for its quality but affordable tyres. It is owned by premium tyre brand Goodyear, which exposes it to many of the leading market trends and materials – and combined with its own rigorous testing procedures, ensures that every Cooper tyre is durable and comfortable to drive on.

However, in comparison to other premium brands like Michelin and Dunlop, Cooper is a more affordable solution.

Some of the hallmarks of Cooper Tyres that make it such a popular brand include the wide range of tyre options for different vehicles and terrains, the advanced tread designs that maximise grip and traction, and the selection of off-road models which are particularly popular with adventure drivers.

Popular Cooper Models and Collections

Cooper Tyres is a mid-range brand that spans many corners of the sector, with tyres for off-road and road driving, performance and high-speed driving, and navigating different seasons and climates.

Among the most popular models, many drivers are especially drawn to Cooper’s selection of dedicated off-road tyres, which are tested in leading facilities and under the pressure of different conditions. The Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S is a notable all-season 4x4 tyre model for SUVs and light trucks, while the Cooper Discoverer AT3 Sport 2 tyres boosts stability and handling across challenging terrains.

Other popular models include the Cooper Zeon 4XS Sport tyres for SUVs, the Cooper CS5 Grand Touring tyres for high-performance passenger cars, and the Cooper ProControl tyres which optimise fuel efficiency and durability on the roads.

Browsing the Cooper Catalogue by Season
UK drivers are often drawn to the convenience and reliability of all-season tyres for year-round safety and performance. Premium brands, and those connected with premium brands through ownership and factory exposure, blend the attributes of leading winter and summer tyres into their all-season range – though it’s the winter and summer designs that maximise performance in different conditions.

The selection of all-season tyres manufactured by Cooper include road tyres, all-terrain tyres, and off-road tyres, for passenger cars as well as light trucks and vans. Among the top models are the Cooper Discoverer range and the Cooper Evolution Van All Season model. The Discoverer range is one of the most popular manufactured by Cooper, including the Discoverer AT3 Sport 2, the Discoverer AT3 LT, and the Discoverer STT Pro tyre model.

Summer tyres balance dry performance with wet grip, and are excellent for controlled cornering as well as braking, acceleration, comfort, and handling. Reinforced sidewalls ensure the tyre holds its shape, while off-road summer tyres support reliable long distance and mixed terrain navigation. Top Cooper summer models include the Cooper Zeon CS8 car tyres, the Cooper CS2 tyres, the Cooper S/T Maxx tyre for superior off-road traction, and the Cooper Cobra Radial tyre.

The Cooper selection of Winter tyres is characterised by thick tyre tread blocks and dependable grip, with added sipes for dispelling ice on the road surface, and an extra pliable rubber compound for traction and handling. Winter models include the Cooper Discoverer Winter, the Cooper Weathermaster WSC, and the Cooper WM SA2+ tyres.

Choosing the Best Tyres for Your Vehicle

Cooper Tyres is not just a leading manufacturer in the world – it’s also owned by one of the top premium brands, with its own development centre and a sophisticated approach to development and testing.

Choosing the best tyres, from Cooper or another mid-range or premium brand, starts with the right tyre size and specifications, covering load index and speed index, climate compatibility, and tyre pressure. The best tyres will often depend on driving style and where you typically drive your vehicle, with drivers needing to pay attention to tyre tread depth and the standard of tyre fitting to keep their tyres in good condition.
