How much fuel the tyre uses as it rolls. Graded A to E, where A is the most efficient and E the least.
How well the tyre stops in the wet. Graded A to E, where A is the shortest stopping distance. Each grade is worth roughly 3 metres, about a car length.
How loud the tyre is from outside the car, measured in decibels. Graded A to C, where A is the quietest.
Designed for cars, rather than vans, 4x4s or commercial vehicles.
A stronger sidewall lets this tyre carry more weight than a standard tyre of the same size. Marked XL on the sidewall.
Designed for temperatures below 7°C. Summer tyre rubber hardens in the cold and loses grip, while a winter compound stays soft and holds the road in cold, wet and snowy conditions.
The Continental Winter Contact TS 830 P is a winter tyre designed for optimum snow and ice braking and traction. Constructed using a unique asymmetric tread design, it gives the outer and inner tread zones differing functions. The outer zone is constructed using closely spaced blocks, while the inner zone relies on an open design with front to back grooves to remove water and slush to maintain traction. The outer zone also features additional grip block edges that are created by the design's focus on cutting dense slits in the tread surface. These slits create small, multiple contact points in the snow and icy surfaces.
Runflat SSR version tyres use sidewalls that support the weight of the vehicle after a tyre pressure loss. Some sizes are equipped with the BMW Star and MO markings, the approval markings for BMW and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Matching sidewall marks makes the replacement tyre compliant with the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. The WinterContact TS 850 P was developed after the TS 830 P. Tyres.co.uk offers the Continental Winter Contact TS 830 P and its SSR runflat variants.
