The Bridgestone Turanza EL42 is classified as a grand-touring all-season tyre, specifically designed to meet original-equipment runflat specifications. Runflat tyres feature reinforced sidewalls that help support the vehicle after a puncture and loss of air pressure. The symmetric tread pattern features 4 grooves running across the circumference of the tyre and laterally notched ribs. These notched ribs help pump water away from under the tread. An all-season tread compound is bonded to 2 steel belts that are reinforced with nylon. The runflat tyre casing features sidewall inserts that fully support the vehicle load after a puncture.
Tyres with the BMW star marking on the sidewall are made to BMW specifications. When replacing original-equipment tyres, it is advisable to match this marking. The Turanza EL42 range from Bridgestone includes runflat tyres. Bridgestone claims that after a puncture, these runflat tyres can be operated with a maximum speed of 50 mph for a distance of 50 miles.
