It is reported that the average Formula One set of tyres costs around $2,700.
For a single F1 race, each vehicle requires 13 sets of tyres for the regular changes – taking the total cost of tyres per race up to $35,100.
And with 21 races in each season, you don’t need to be a maths whizz to see that total increasing exponentially to millions of dollars.
And a quick reminder, that’s just for the tyres of the vehicle – nothing else.
What Makes F1 Tyres So Expensive?
Formula One tyres are put through their paces from the minute the lights turn green and the flag drops. These tyres need to be exceptionally well made with a tread pattern that optimises grip and stability on the right corners, and that reacts well to the track.
