Can Electric Vehicles Be Driven on Regular Tyres?

Technically, you can fit normal tyres to an electric vehicle. 

However, there’s a catch – and it all comes down to the way electric vehicles are built and powered.

Electric vehicles rely on a large battery that is charged up and enables them to run smoothly. This adds a great deal of weight to each vehicle, meaning that EVs are much heavier than standard cars.

So, while tyres with a high load rating can technically be used on an EV, it’s important to recognise the impact that the vehicle weight will have on the tyres lifespan. Tyres which are not purpose-built to withstand this weight will wear down at a much quicker rate and so will need replacing far more regularly. 

Are EV Tyres More Expensive Then?

Well, it’s because electric vehicle tyres are more expensive to buy.

Ultimately, EV tyres are a more expensive purchase initially, but they last the test of time and continued use – making them a longer term saving.
