Aptany Tyres Reviewed: Affordable — But at What Cost?

We want to start this blog with a bit of insight into the world of affordable and budget tyres – more specifically, what allows some brands to be so much cheaper than others.

A budget tyre brand is, by definition, a brand that sells tyres at a cheaper price than many other options. While the market is flooded with big brand names and premium tyre models like Michelin, Bridgestone and Pirelli, budget brands tend to be lesser known without the same high profile as these premium brands. But crucially, that doesn’t always mean they are made cheaply or lack quality.

While some budget brands are notably cheaper in quality, focussing on quantity rather than quality, others are made using quality materials and are even manufactured in the same factories as more premium brands – they are simply lesser known and so cheaper to buy.

In short, a budget brand that is deemed affordable by market standards, is not always designed and built to a lower standard. Every brand is different – which is why these brand reviews and deep dives are so important.

What Do Drivers Need to Know About Aptany Tyres?

To move on to the brand we’re focussing on in this blog, Aptany Tyres was founded in 2004 as part of the wider Wanli Tyre Company in China. It is classed as a budget brand on the tyre market, praised for its affordability and the wide selection of tyres – though there are elements of its performance that are questioned. Specifically, Aptany Tyres are not considered as long-lasting as other brands, and do not perform particularly well in challenging conditions and on wet surfaces.

In terms of the Aptany Tyre collection and its diversity, this brand produces tyres for passenger cars, SUVs and light trucks. Its range includes summer, all-season and winter tyres, with some high-performance models that claim to enhance control and offer quality durability.

But what are the benefits of this brand – and does the brand’s cheaper price tag impact performance?

Aptany Tyres: The Pros

Aptany Tyres may be a budget brand, but there are still selling points that make it a popular brand to choose for some drivers.

Among its positives, drivers note the basic performance which ensures tyres meet minimum standards in terms of control, handling and reliability. They are safe to drive on and support a balanced driving experience, provided drivers match the right tyres to the right vehicle and climate / terrain.

Other benefits include:

  • Affordability of the tyres and their price
  • Diverse range spanning different tyre designs, vehicles and journey types – from performance to everyday driving and long distance touring
  • Low rolling resistance which helps support the fuel efficiency and economical sustainability of the tyres

In the budget market, the ownership of Aptany Tyres under the Wanli Tyres Company means that tyres are designed and manufactured with quality attributes and materials. However, the affordable pricing does come at a price – and with Aptany, that price affects performance in certain conditions as well as driver comfort.

Limitations and Things to Consider Before Buying Aptany Tyres

The main downsides and limitations of the Aptany range affect performance and comfort – especially in wet weather with poor handling and braking also affected.

What’s more, when compared with other brands, Aptany Tyres does not deliver a particularly good experience in terms of driver comfort and road noise – with tyres noted as creating a fair amount of noise during travel and impacting comfort especially in wet conditions.

Drivers can mitigate these concerns by making sure they select the right tyres for the season; however, the lack of wet grip and control can mean that UK drivers’ choice is limited in terms of safety and reliable performance.

Are Aptany Tyres Reliable to Drive?

When it comes to choosing new or replacement tyres, most drivers in the UK want versatility, convenience, safety, and of course an enjoyable and comfortable driving experience. Aptany Tyres is undoubtedly budget-friendly, though the effect of the lower cost on performance and stability can mean they are not a good option for drivers in wet or particularly versatile climates.

With many budget brands offering better wet grip and performance, Aptany is a brand that we would really only recommend to those in very temperate and dry areas. Its tyres are cheap, but it’s important to recognise the impact of that on performance and reliability.
