History

An American tyre brand that has existed since 1892, Uniroyal Tyres was formerly known as the United States Rubber Company. It produces a collection of tyres and other rubber products, with a history in the production of military ammunitions and explosives equipment too.

The latter, unexpected development, came in 1942 when the United States government converted the tyre manufacturing facilities to produce ammunition for the war – however, the need for tyres outweighed the need for ammunition again by the end of 1943.

Uniroyal’s Position on the Tyre Market

The Uniroyal brand is separated under two main parent tyre brands: it sits under Michelin ownership across the United States and is owned by Continental AG across Europe and the rest of the world. Regardless of its ownership status, Uniroyal is a tyre brand that is known for innovation and performance, particularly across wet driving conditions.

One of its first and most prolific tyres was known under the name ‘Tiger Paw’ – introduced in the 1960s and selected as OE (original equipment) for hefty muscle cars like the Pontiac GPO. The Tiger Paw is still a tyre name used today by the Uniroyal brand, evoking memories of its history in the industry even as the brand enhances its range with leading tyre technology like Shark Skin and run-flat design.

However, as you’ll see when you continue reading, it’s wet grip and the development of rain tyres that really separates Uniroyal tyres from other tyre manufacturers.

Popular Uniroyal Models and Collections

Uniroyal tyres, now under the ownership of Michelin and Continental AG depending on where in the world you are, benefits from exposure to premium research and development facilities. Despite sitting in the mid-range category of tyres, both in terms of pricing and quality, Uniroyal tyres has access to the same facilities and innovation as leading premium brands and so brings much of the top tyre technology to cheaper products.

More accessible, with an eye to safety and performance particularly on wet roads and adverse weather conditions, there are several features being Uniroyal’s most popular tyres that make this brand so reliable.

Shark Skin technology is one of them, reducing the risk of aquaplaning and improving traction between the tyre and the road surface. DuraShield technology is another feature that Uniroyal has built into its tyres, supporting durability and longevity in the face of challenging terrain.

Uniroyal was also the first tyre manufacturer to develop a dedicated ‘wet tyre’ and introduced zig-zag tread patterns as a unique feature to reduce skidding way back in 1912.

Suffice to say, innovation is at the heart of Uniroyal tyres – making it a top brand for a very specific market…

Uniroyal tyres markets itself as a brand for driving in the rain. It’s geared towards safety and performance, with a range of tyres to suit different vehicles, across wet and dry conditions – though wet grip is the tyre brands’ speciality.

That, among other things, is why Uniroyal tyres – from 4x4 tyres to SUV tyres, passenger tyres, and sports car tyres – are so popular with UK drivers in particular.

Browsing the Uniroyal Catalogue by Season
With Uniroyal tyres heavily invest in the wet grip and rain-proof tyre market, you will notice that each of its tyres is designed to ensure safety in different weather conditions – while also unlocking the enjoyment of diverse terrains and conditions for drivers. Leaning into the driving experience, much of the content that Uniroyal produces is about how much the brand loves rain and challenging conditions. This can be seen in the RainSport3 summer tyres, the AllSeasonExpert tyres, and the Rallye 4x4 tyres – all of which are designed for different car types, but which navigate the complexities of rain and wet weather with ease.

Uniroyal’s tyres are filtered by several headings, including season and whether drivers prefer the versatility of all-season tyres or the fixed attributes of winter tyres and summer tyres. Uniroyal’s all-season tyre collection includes the AllSeasonExpert 2 tyres and the AllSeasonMax tyres, the former designed for passenger cars while the latter is for larger vehicles.

Uniroyal’s summer tyres are all carefully designed to manage the transition from wet to dry roads, while remaining strong and durable in high temperatures. Tyres like the Uniroyal RainSport 5 and RainExpert 5 are built to withstand heavy rainfall and navigate the surface water left on the roads, with each suitable for different vehicle types and handling needs. Older models like the Uniroyal RainExpert 3 and RainSport 3 support cornering and braking, giving the driver complete control.

And then we have the winter tyres range from Uniroyal – remaining flexible and pliable in colder temperatures, with a tread pattern that ensures friction and grip on icy and even snowy road surfaces. The WinterExpert tyres are built for passenger cars, while the Snow Max 3 are Uniroyal’s answer to commercial truck tyres for winter.

Choosing the Right Tyres from Uniroyal

With a dedication to wet grip and wet driving, Uniroyal’s mid-range tyres are an excellent option for UK drivers who have to navigate year-round rainfall.

Drivers who choose Uniroyal tyres enjoy durability and quality, supporting high-performance but at a good price.
