Ask anyone to name a tyre brand, and the chances are that they will say ‘Michelin’.
A brand that doesn’t just manufacture tyres, but which also has one of the most recognisable logos, and which even exists outside the tyre sector as a restaurant ratings board and travel guide provider, Michelin is one of the top and best-known premium tyre brands in the world.
The company was founded in 1889 in France and now boasts 60 facilities across 18 different countries. It consistently comes out on top in lists of company size, turnover, and reputation – producing tyres for a diverse selection of vehicles and driver types.
As well as the various tyre types and features, it’s important to recognise Michelin tyres' reputation among vehicle manufacturers too. The likes of BMW, Audi, and Mercedes all choose high-performance Michelin tyres as one of the go-to brands for new vehicles, with various motorsport events all citing Michelin as being an existing or former partner.
The motorsport connection between Michelin tyres and the likes of F1 is widely talked about, as Michelin grew in competitiveness and quality in the years 2001 to 2006. After that, Michelin withdrew from F1. Nonetheless, Michelin still provides tyres for MotoGP, endurance races, and rally driving.
