History

Goodyear Tyres is part of a much larger company, called the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company – though it is colloquially referred to simply as ‘Goodyear’.

First founded in 1898, it is one of the top three tyre manufacturers in the world, with headquarters in Ohio and over 52 manufacturing facilities worldwide. Interestingly, the brand was not named after its own founder but rather after Charles Goodyear who originally invented vulcanized rubber – the hardened type of rubber used to create tyres.

This nod to the history of not just the brand itself but the very concept of vehicle tyre makes Goodyear a brand that has firmly solidified its place as a leading and reputable brand.

Goodyear Tyres’ Position on the Market

Goodyear tyres are created to suit a broad range of vehicular needs, spanning passenger vehicles, aviation aircraft, commercial trucks, military and police vehicles, motorcycles, race and motorsport cars, and heavy off-road machinery including agricultural and farm machinery.

Goodyear also has a collection of tyres for different climates and driving conditions, with all-season tyres, summer tyres and winter tyres, and specialised RunOnFlat tyres for exceptional driver convenience and ease.

Notable Technology from the Goodyear Brand

When it comes to choosing a tyre Goodyear has made a name for itself as one of the most reputable and reliable brands. And it's not just drivers themselves who overwhelmingly prefer this brand over many others. Goodyear is also reputable among manufacturers, with the likes of BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes all selecting Goodyear tyres as go-to options for their vehicles.

This is largely because of the technology embedded into its rubber tyres, which is designed to enhance not just the safety and durability of tyres but also the quality of their performance.

Just some of the technologies worth noting include Dry Stability Plus, Sound Comfort Technology to reduce tyre noise, RunOnFlat tyres for driving with a puncture, SealTech which seals minor holes and punctures automatically, and Goodyear EfficientGrip which saves fuel while supporting great on-road performance.

Tyres manufactured under the Goodyear name are also made using patented 3D-BIS innovation which improved the stiffness and stability of tyres, and with SmartTread technology built into the tyre tread which adapts to the different roads surfaces the vehicle drives on.

Many of these features are what make each Goodyear tyre so widely suitable for different conditions and vehicle types – with the overarching tyre ranges segmented into all-season, summer, and winter tyre solutions.

Popular Goodyear Tyre Types and Models

Most drivers who head to Tyres.co.uk are looking for car tyres that are reliable and safe, and that prop up performance as well as comfort for both driver and passengers. Whether you’re looking for performance tyres, all-terrain tyres, or premium tyres with ultragrip performance for optimum safety, Goodyear is a backed by leading research and development across its factories and facilities.

Some of the most popular Goodyear tyres sit in the Eagle F1 SuperSport collection. The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 is as close to a sports tyre that drivers can get in terms of performance, while still prioritising wet grip and traction. Meanwhile the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 is an award-winning tyre which balances performance with the grip of a summer tyre. Other tyre models, like the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 and the Eagle F1 GSD3 are designed to meet the specific needs of different vehicles - including 4x4 tyres and SUVs.

Another standout collection is the EfficientGrip range, including the EfficientGrip Performance 2, EfficientGrip Compact, and the EfficientGrip Cargo tyre.

UK drivers in particular are drawn to the ease of all season tyres, which combine Goodyear’s quality guarantee with the convenience of a tyre that supports safe and high-performance driving all year round. Because of the UK’s temperate climate, summer and winter tyres are a luxury that drivers don’t need to invest in – rather, all-season tyres are typically sufficient. Having said that, Goodyear has developed a line of summer tyres and winter tyres that are specially suited to support driving in more challenging climates, with ranges that include SUV tyres and tyres that balance seasonal traction with fuel efficiency.
Goodyear’s summer tyre range is developed with an eye to grip and safe handling come rain or shine, with the tyres made from a hardened rubber which does not become excessively soft under the heat of the sun. The high tread elasticity supports driving on hot tarmac and surfaces, while short braking distances keep all drivers safe.
Goodyear also has a range of winter tyres, which are designed to maintain a high level of elasticity in challenging and frosty weather conditions. The tyre tread and silica compound remains flexible when driving on ice and snow, with enhanced control and water dispersal to instil an extra layer of driver confidence. Countless tyre reviews online herald the versatility of Goodyear tyres, whether it's the high-traction winter tyres or the stiff and supportive summer range. All Goodyear tyres benefit from the advanced design of all tyres – with the premium quality reflected in the higher price tag.

Choosing the Right Goodyear Tyres

When selecting the right tyres for your car, it’s important to understand the tyre size calculation and how the tyres you choose will impact your driving behaviour and performance.

The diverse range of Goodyear tyres include EfficientGrip options with unmatched braking on wet road surfaces, the popular Eagle F1 Asymmetric range promoting high performance and excellent cornering across sports vehicles, and the standard Goodyear Assurance tyre range that supports all season traction in any conditions.

Drivers are encouraged to choose tyres based on their climate as well as the prices available, making sure to select tyres with the right load and speed rating for their vehicle.
